Stalking Investigations

Stalking InvestigatorsStalking investigations are not main stream. Too many people take the idea of stalking too lightly. It is, in fact, a serious crime that often put a person’s life in danger. Stalking involves but isn’t limited to repeatedly watching someone, following them, monitoring their actions, or even harassing them. This can occur online known as cyber-stalking, or in-person through giving unwanted gifts or the like. Being stalked adds a lot of mental stress for the victim. This may leave the victim feeling stressed, vulnerable, and even anxious. There may even be trouble sleeping and also concentrating at school or work.

In the United States alone, over 3 million people are stalked, with the majority being 18-24 being the highest. While many assume that stalkers are strangers, the fact remains that 3 out of 4 people are stalked by someone they know. It’s essential to call 911 if you are in immediate danger and report everything to the police. Sometimes, it is necessary to obtain a protection order to prevent the stalker from coming near you.

What Do a Stalking Investigations Include?

Florida has made stalking illegal nationwide with statute 784.048, 775.082, or 775.083, which clearly states that any person who repeatedly, willfully, and maliciously follows or harasses another person commits stalking. Depending on the degree, these range from a misdemeanor to felony.

When it comes to investigating a stalking case, it is to stop the harassment and to collect any evidence to prosecute. It usually all starts with interviewing the person being stalked. Private investigators need as much information as possible, along with any available evidence. The potential for physical violence at this point should be considered and not minimalized by either the victim, police or private investigators.

It’s also vital that the victim not make any contact during the investigation and to have them record all events of the stalker. There is also increasing the victim’s security. i.e. a safety or contingency plan. This is also when private investigators look into all supporting evidence. Miami Private Investigators may look into criminal databases and past history of the stalker to see if any relevant information will help in the investigation. All information will be documented and investigated. This can include technological evidence in cases of cyberstalking and the seizing of physical evidence by the police. If necessary, a search warrant may be issued for further investigation by law enforcement.

If you feel you are being stalked, please contact the police immediately. If you think your life is in danger, call 911.
